Senator Denham Visits Westside Head Start

Senator Jeff Denham visited with preschoolers at Westside Head Start in Los Banos on Nov. 8, 2009. The Senator was joined by Los Banos Board of Education Member Andree Soares, Los Banos Unified School District Assistant Superintendent Charles Martin and Merced County Office of Education Assistant Superintendent Gaye Riggs. The tour participants discussed the newly released RAND research which reveals that the school readiness gap mirrors the achievement gap in later grades. more

Congresswoman Judy Chu Highlights Dual Language Learning in Preschool Visit

On Oct. 26, 2010, Congresswoman Chu visited Brooklyn Early Education Center of the Los Angeles Unified School District, to highlight model approaches to teaching dual language learners. She was joined by local early learning and dual language learning partners in visiting the classroom and speaking with administrators, teachers, students and parents to get their feedback on the benefits of the approach to learning. more
