A packed house of almost 500 educators from nearly 100 school districts, who serve more than 2 million children across the state, joined the exciting conversation on how to effectively implement transitional kindergarten. With statewide implementation beginning in fall 2012, leaders and early adopters shared their promising practices with those who are planning their own programs. more

Senator Jeff Denham visited with preschoolers at Westside Head Start in Los Banos on Nov. 8, 2009. The Senator was joined by Los Banos Board of Education Member Andree Soares, Los Banos Unified School District Assistant Superintendent Charles Martin and Merced County Office of Education Assistant Superintendent Gaye Riggs. The tour participants discussed the newly released RAND research which reveals that the school readiness gap mirrors the achievement gap in later grades. more
