WHAT'S NEW
2010 Early Childhood Development Legislation Introduced: An exciting early learning legislative agenda has emerged this year, with several early learning-related bills introduced in the state legislature. Included among these is AB 2592, introduced by Assemblymember Joan Buchanan, which calls for legislation to be enacted relating to the Early Learning Quality Improvement System. Assemblymember Julia Brownley introduced AB 220, which seeks amendments to include pre-k in the University Public Education Facilities Bond, and AB 2553, which would require the Department of Education to collect school readiness data of children entering kindergarten. Senator Carol Liu’s newly introduced SB 1126 would require the California State Universities and California Community Colleges to develop articulation and transfer program agreements for early childhood education and related majors. Read the Child Development Policy Institute’s information bulletins for further information on early care and education legislation. Please stay tuned for more information on how to take action.
